When you make your New Year’s resolutions this year, consider making “Safety” your priority. While designated workers are challenged with making this a safer place to live, we are all responsible for our corner of the world. Even the simplest activities can reduce the incidents of injury and death.
Driving for Life
- Buckle everyone safely, including yourself
- All children under age 13 ride in the back seat
- Use a car seat or booster seat based on your child’s age, weight and height
- Install car seats by following all labels, instructions, and the vehicle manual
- Follow the recommendations to keep children in booster seats up to 4’9” and about 80 lbs.
Never drink and drive
- “Buzzed” driving is drunk driving
- Designate a sober driver
- Hang up and drive
- Choose to make the calls (or texts) before or after the trip
- Be prepared and stop running red lights
- Avoid road rage
- Life is to short and fragile to risk it
- Drive defensively
- When alone at night, ask for a security escort to your vehicle
- Have your keys in hand and look into your vehicle before entering
- Lock all doors as soon as you are in your vehicle
- Be extra cautions while driving at night and in hazardous conditions
- Park in well-lit, heavily trafficked areas
- Walk briskly from your vehicle with your head up and be aware of your surroundings
12 Steps
These are 12 simple steps to improve your safety. Congratulations, if you are already doing them. Perhaps, you are ready to take on 12 “In Home” safety resolutions. Or perhaps, you are the one to encourage another to create their own list of “Safety Resolutions”. Thank you for making this world a better place.
